Carl C. Kirk, Floyd Street, Warfield, Ky., departed this life on Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Ky. A lifelong residence of Martin County, he was born July 7, 1919 (see note 1), on Wolf Creek. The oldest of 14 children, he was born to John and Ella Moore Kirk. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lucy Preece Kirk. Three children: George C. and Deborah Kirk, Lexington, Ky., Vanessa Briggs and husband Sidney of Warfield, Ky., and Bruce and wife Vicky Preece of Manchester, Conn., 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Surviving brothers and sisters are Willie Kirk of Lovely, Ky., Martha Slone, Kermit, W. Va., Mary Kirk, Virginia Beach, Va., Dewey Kirk of Thornton, Fla., and Benny Kirk of Kermit, W. Va. His brothers, Everett, Floyd, Richard, Basil, Tommy, Danny, John Jr. and Edward all preceded him in death. During the 1940s when Warfield was first incorporated, Mr. Kirk was elected the first police chief. Always active in the republican politics, he was the brother of Willie Kirk, former county Judge Executive for many years. Retired from Island Creek Coal Co., he was an avid outdoorsman. For 70 years he was fox hunter of the first degree in Eastern Ky., and Southwest W. Va. He and his wife Lucy have been fathful members of the Beauty Church of Christ. Funeral service will be a 2 p.m. Monday at the Beauty Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Warfield Cemetery. memorial contributions in his memory are suggested to the Beauty Church of Christ and the Alzheimer's Association. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.
